The Problem
Highrise buildings rarely catch fire but when they do the fatality could be huge. After 9-11 it became apparent the in such unpredictable events, the emergency services can be totally powerless and put their own life in danger. Over 3000 people lost their life and everyone working or living in Manhattan or any town with highrise building have since become insecure and fearful of such event or any event with similar consequences happening.
Immediately after 9-11 I came up with a very practical and cheap solution. I tried contacting companies to discuss the idea with but no one replied. Since it was my idea, I wanted to patent it and then make small profit from it. But at that time it did not seem appropriate. I work out the design and met the nearest rescue service and discussed the idea with them. They liked the idea very much. Since I have had no luck with getting anyone's attention I have decided to share this idea with the public as well.
Solution
Method 1
In case of 9-11 type fire, the occupant of highrise buildings can easily escape by jumping out of the window. The entire floor can evacuate in less than 10 min. It is much easier and quicker than any other available methods
Everyone will have a medium size rucksack under their desk. Within that there is a reel containing 200 meter of wire can withstand the weight of 200kg and fire for at least 10 min. In case of serious fire, where there is no hope, the person will open the rucksack and wear the fireproof clothing, which is made of very light and easy-wear material. The rucksack is worn on the back and secured. A hook is attached to the edge of the window and and the person will climb down. The abseiling is gradual and smooth as the wire is slowly released by the mechanism at the rate of 2 to 5 meters/second. There person can adjust the speed or stop it by using a gear that grips the wire. Once the person has reached the bottom the wire can be used by others if necessary.
Method 2
Large buildings can invest in a permanent system were each floor is equipped with a strong wire, stored in a box in the wall which opens to outside. In case of an emergency the ropes from each floor is dropped to the ground. The rescue service will secure the end of the rope to the ground some 20 meter away from the building. The occupant will the use and strap belt with a special hook to slide down. Very similar to teleski at ski resorts. The mechanism gently controls the speed. The advantage of this system is that the occupants will leave farther from the building as the descent so it is much safer.
